[Knightsqrss] Anybody having QRSS fun stateside?

Hey all, new subscriber here. I've been hearing about Bill Meara's
fun on 30m via the soldersmoke podcast, and am once again intrigued by
the possibility of QRPp and very narrow band signal operation. For
years, I've read about Part 15 experimentation on the LF/MF bands, and
thought to myself "gee, that sounds like fun" but done nothing about
it. It's time to dust off the soldering iron and computers and do
something fun.

As a first step, are there any QRSS beacons currently in operation in
the U.S.? All the lists I've been able to find are possibly years out
of date, and I'd like to know for sure that one was operating so I
could gauge how effective my receiver setup is.

As a second step, what would people recommend as a reasonable design
for a simple 100mw or so beacon? In all fairness, I'm mostly a
software guy, but I can grab the right end of the soldering iron 90%
of the time, so I am looking for a simple design that doesn't require
a bunch of test equipment. I'm doing a bit of web searching and
scanning back through the knights archives, but I'd still be
interested in having an expert's recommendations for the beginner. :-)

Thanks!
