I managed it by putting an eight digit IARU locator in (used for
microwave contests) and this is the effect upon the database...

2008-04-16 13:36 OY3JE 10.140165 -24 0 IP62oa +33 1.995
G0DJA IO93if 1030 640
  2008-04-16 13:30 OY3JE 10.140165 -27 0 IP62oa +33
1.995 G0DJA IO93if -2 -1
  2008-04-16 13:20 OZ1PIF 10.140142 -26 0 JO65an +32
1.585 G0DJA IO93if -2 -1
  2008-04-16 12:54 OZ1DJJ 10.140130 -24 -1 JO65hp +27
0.501 G0DJA IO93if -2 -1
  2008-04-16 12:42 OZ1PIF 10.140142 -25 0 JO65an +32
1.585 G0DJA IO93if -2 -1
  2008-04-16 12:34 OZ1PIF 10.140141 -24 -1 JO65an +32
1.585 G0DJA IO93if -2 -1
  2008-04-16 12:28 OZ1DJJ 10.140131 -26 0 JO65hp +27
0.501 G0DJA IO93 912 567

As you can see, the calculated distance was calculated as being a
negative value while I had the eight digits specified but is now OK with
just the six digit version.
